Since Paul Wick took the helm of Seligman’s technology practice in 1990, the platform has grown from a single long-only strategy to encompass long/short strategies, launched in 2001, and most recently a venture arm, while maintaining a consistent focus on deep research, independent judgment, and long-term investing.

The founding of Seligman Ventures under Umesh Padval, an investor who has sat in the operator’s seat at every stage from startup to hypergrowth, extends that same conviction to companies decades before they go public.

As part of Columbia Threadneedle Investments, the global asset management business of Ameriprise Financial, Seligman benefits from a long-term capital base and broad institutional support. With a long and storied history that began in 1864 with the founding of J. & W. Seligman and investment in American railroad lines and the Panama Canal, each new strategy and each new frontier is the same approach applied to what’s next.
